Join us for an introductory yoga program as we experience the nourishing and inspirational power of being close to nature.  Please bring a yoga mat or blanket.This program will take place both indoors and out.

Sunset Walk to the Fire Island Lighthouse

Robert Moses State Park, Fire Island

Join us for a visit to one of the most beautiful spots on Long Island to watch the sun set.  Tom Vitti will lead the walk and discuss the areas flora, fauna and natural features as we wait for the show!  Don't forget your camera!

Adult Nature Art

Environmental Center, Islip

Explore the natural world with your paintbrush, pencil, charcoal and imagination!  Participants will be encouraged to carefully observe the wildlife and natural beauty of the 70-acre sanctuary and given a chance to explore some new techniques.  Some art supplies, provided by student, call for supply list.

Program fee $4 for members, $6 for non-members.

Bird Survey

Environmental Center, Islip

Join Seatuck staff as we identify and count birds at the nature center.  We'll start at one end of the property and hike to the other.  The survey is open to all birding abilities; we can use your help whether you can tell a chickadee from a wren, or not.  The information will be part of our effort to monitor long-term trends on the property and local bird populations.

Program fee $4 for members, $6 for non-members.

Dragonfly Lecture

Environmental Center, Islip

Dragonflies are the top guns of the insect world, acrobatically cruising above fields, ponds and marsh in search of their prey.  They are expert predators but also incredibly beautiful.  Entomologist Tom Cullen will provide an overview of the dragonflies of Long Island.  This program is part of our 2010 Novice Naturalist Lecture Series.

Program fee is $4 for members, $6 for non-members.

Migrating Hawks and Dragons on the Beach

Robert Moses State Park, Fire Island

Ages 10 and up

Join Seatuck for an adventure through the dunes of the barrier island to observe interactions between southward migrating hawks and dragonflies.  Meet at the far eastern end of Field 5 near the boardwalk.  Bring lunch, water, sunscreen, insect repellant and, if you have them, insect nets and binoculars.
