Seatuck Hosts Business Leaders; Overton Honored In anticipation of the grand opening of the new Suffolk County Environmental Center in Islip, the Seatuck Environmental Association held a Business Leaders Breakfast on Wednesday, February 24, 2010. Overton Funeral Home was honored at the event for their long time support of Seatuck. |
Many local and regional business leaders, as well as Islip Town Councilman Steve Flotteron, attended the breakfast to learn more about Seatuck’s unique partnership with Suffolk County and potential opportunities for community building.
Suffolk County Legislator Tom Cilmi was on hand to present a certificate of appreciation to Eric Buehler in recognition of Overton Funeral Home’s longstanding support of Seatuck (picture enclosed). Overton has been a Charter Business Member of Seatuck since 1993. In his opening remarks, Legislator Cilmi also discussed the history of Seatuck, from its inception in 1989 through to its current partnership with Suffolk County.
Enrico Nardone, Executive Director of Seatuck, continued the discussion about the history of Seatuck and told the story of the Scully Estate. He also outlined the vision for the center, which will feature exhibits, nature trails & boardwalks, a gift shop, and a wide range of nature programs for people of all ages. He urged all the business leaders to partner with Seatuck to help make the Suffolk County Environmental Center one of the premiere education and nature facilities on Long Island.
A grand opening ribbon cutting for the center has been scheduled for Earth Day, April 22, 2010. A public open house and “Eco-carnival” will be held on April 24, 2010. Mr. Nardone invited all local business members to promote and participate in the grand opening event, stating “The day will be a fun-filled day featuring nature programs, story tellers, music, art, games, and food.”
