Seatuck's signature events include the EcoCarnival, the Seatuck Birding Challenge, the Bats & Brews Benefit and the Owl Prowl 5K. Each of these unique events has grown into a beloved annual happening. In addition to generating income for the organization, these events also give Seatuck a venue for introducing new people to its many other offerings and afford corporate sponsors the opportunity to support Seatuck while reaching thousands of conservation-minded Long Islanders.
Seatuck Birding Challenge
In 2014, Seatuck launched the Long Island's first island-wide birding event, the Seatuck Birding Challenge. Participating teams spread out across Long Island, from Jamaica Bay to Riverhead, to find as many birds as possible during 12-hour window. The event included expert birders, high school teams and families. The winning teams found more than 100 species!
The 2017 Seatuck Birding Challenge will be held on Saturday, September 9 - Cliick here for details and to register.
Bats & Brews Benefit
The Bats & Brews Benefit is a fundraising event that features a presentation on bats and craft-brewed beer from Long Island's best breweries. The benefit, which also includes food from local eateries and music by The Decoys, has become a favorite local event!
The 2017 Bats & Brews Benefit will be held on Saturday, October 21. Click here for additional information and to purchase tickets.
Owl Prowl 5K
The Owl Prowl 5K is a fun run/walk that takes participants, many of whom run in costume, through the Old South Islip neighborhood and finishes at the Environmental Center. The event also includes a Monster Mash Dash fun run for children! Throughuot October the Scully Estate is dressed up for the holiday, making it the perfect backdrop for the Owl Prowl and a festive place to celebrate the Halloween season! We regret that the Owl Prowl 5K has been cancelled for 2017 - we are exploring options for reviving or replacing the event for 2018. Stay tuned!
Seatuck's Eco-Carnival is one of the premier Earth Day celebrations on Long Island. The event was created in 2010 as part of the grand opening of the Suffolk County Environmental Center. Since then, it has become a favorite spring fixture, drawing thousands each year. The Eco-Carnival features a series of hands-on nature stations, nature-inspired arts-n-crafts, games and booths, as well as music, food and ice cream. It's eco-friendly, nature-based fun for whole family! The event is held in cooperation with Suffolk County and the Town of Islip.
Despite cool, rainy weather, the 2017 Eco-Carnival, held on Earth Day, April 22, still drew over 1,200 people to the Scully Estate! Check back here for details about the next Eco-Carnival, which will be held on April 21, 2018.
